Portrait Photography in Tokyo
Whether it’s during the day or at night, Tokyo is a city where great photos can be taken 24 hours a day (Photo taken in Shinjuku).
It’s no secret that Tokyo and Japan more generally have become one of if not the hottest holiday destination of the last couple of years. For most people it’s always been on their bucket list and given all that pent up frustration from a lack of travel during Covid and the weakness of the yen, people are coming in droves.
While I am sure you plan to go souvenir hunting in the likes of Don Quijote or Akihabara, it is important to go home with the most important souvenirs of all, good photos to remember your trip by. Whether it’s a solo break, a romantic couples escape or that long awaited family holiday it’s vitally important to have something you can look back on in years to come to remember the joy of the moment and those you shared it with.
Tokyo is blessed with a treasure trove of great locations. From the most famous such as Shinjuku, Shibuya and Asakusa to the lesser known, but equally beautiful, Zojo-ji Temple, Yurakucho & Hibiya, there is something to suit the tastes of everyone. Throw in the mix of doing your shoot during the day or under Tokyo’s bright night lights and you have a number of options that most other cities could only dream of.
Not sure which location best suits you? No need to worry, with myself as your experienced photographer and guide I can help tailor the photoshoot to your needs, give advice on what to wear and even give you recommendations on where else to explore.
I appreciate that you may at first be hesitant to book a photoshoot, as I am sure we can all admit that at least one time in our lives we've dreaded being in front of the camera. But what if I told you that having your photo taken could be fun? What if I told you it could even be one of the highlights of your holiday? It may sound almost too good to be true but it’s not.
Utilizing not just my knowledge of Tokyo but my years of experience as a photographer I can help draw out those authentic laughs and smiles that will certainly make your trip one to remember.
Furthermore, if you want to make your trip to Japan even more memorable by proposing to that special someone I know exactly how to plan and execute a successful proposal photoshoot to put your mind at ease so you can just focus on the moment and enjoy it.

Shibuya Crossing is one of Japan’s most famous landmarks.
Shinjuku is perhaps the most versatile location to shoot in Tokyo as there are so many great places such as Golden Gai, Kabukicho, Hanazono shrine and more all located at the same place. There’s also a good few arcades if that takes your fancy.
Nearby is also the beautiful Shinjuku Gyoen gardens for those who want something a bit more green and natural.
Shinjuku Gyoen is at its prettiest during the cherry blossom (sakura) season around April each year.
Japan is also becoming an increasingly big destination for those looking to pop the question and propose to that special someone. The reactions are always so fun to capture.
As is the sparkling ring.
Asakusa and Senso-ji Temple are one of the most popular locations for tourists in Japan for good reason. It’s perhaps the best representation of old Tokyo (Edo) still remaining.
However don’t overlook other quieter locations like Zojo-ji Temple in Shiba Park. They can be great places to avoid the crowds for those who want a calmer setting.
Nearby Shiba Park also offers great views of Tokyo Tower.
Yurakucho is a great nighttime location for those who prefer somewhere less busy than Shinjuku or Shibuya.
Nakano is another great nighttime location that is often overlooked.
Of course we can’t forget the grounds of the Imperial Palace which are both vast and offer iconic backdrops.
And there’s no need to worry about the weather. If there’s a bit of rain it’s a good excuse to bring out one of Tokyo’s endearing symbols - the clear plastic umbrella.
